On Sunday September 29th, around 40 of us gathered for our annual fall picnic. 92-year-old young Ralph and Rosie Yob hosted the event at their home, as they have done multiple times in the past. The week prior Lino Rizzi coordinated the sausage (luganega) making at his home, ably assisted by board member Alice and daughter Alessia, and board member Lisa with husband Mike. Lino and Mike handsomely sported their chef hats and went to work cooking up the sausages. Maria and Giuseppina provided the polenta and club president Luca served his delectable sauerkraut (crauti). Rosie started things off with a bowl of canederli, using her Trentina mother-in-law’s recipe. Others brought tasty appetizers and side dishes, and there was an abundance of fine wines. Luca and Dan provided a bit of information on the US and Canadian Trentini convention that had just taken place in Pinzolo, Val Rendena. Thirteen from our club attended. There were several captivating presentations, a parade and an abundance of amazing food and drink. On the last day, Ron Zanoni, a club member and Las Vegas parish priest, co-officiated mass along with the archbishop of Trento, Lauro Tisi. At the end of the picnic, we read an article recently published by the Menlo Park Historical Society chronicling the full and adventurous lives of our hosts, Ralph and Rosie.
